Our Spiritual DNA

Worship, Community and Mission are the three components of the spiritual DNA of The Chapel. These three elements define our vision and what it means to be part of this church.  Everything that we do is driven by these elements of our spiritual DNA.

  • Worship—Responding to God as Creator & Redeemer
  • Community—Loving & Equipping as One
  • Mission—Being Christ’s Body Everywhere

About Worship

Responding to God
as Creator & Redeemer

Worship is what humans do. It’s who we are as people and what we do at the core of our being. Whether we realize it or not, everyone worships. The question simply is who or what will we choose to worship?

In his book about worship, author Harold Best notes that God is continuously pouring himself out toward his creation. Because he created us in his image, humans continuously pour themselves out toward something as well. God’s “continuous outpouring” is called sovereignty. Our “continuous outpouring” is called worship. Everybody does it. But not everybody worships God.

To worship God is to respond to him by recognizing and acknowledging him as being the Creator and the Redeemer. When we realize he is the Holy Creator—and therefore has authority over our lives—the response of worship is awe. When we realize that God has rescued us through his Son, Jesus Christ (Redeemer), the response of worship is thanksgiving. God reveals himself to people as the Creator and Redeemer. People respond with awe and thanksgiving.

A simple way of thinking about it is this:  Notice God … and say “wow” and “thank you” to him.  24/7.

If we live life perpetually noticing (acknowledging) God and responding to him with “wow’ and “thank you,” we fulfill our reason to exist. We pour ourselves out toward him.

In all your ways, acknowledge Him. Proverbs 3:6

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our 'God is a consuming fire.' Hebrews 12:28-29

Worship at The Chapel

Being a worshipper is about living all of life in acknowledgement of God.  But we also have specific times of actively responding to Him by doing worship.  One of the most important ways that gets expressed is in worshipping as the gathered people of God.  Corporate (or “body”) worship happens when the church comes together to adore Christ through actively praising Him and hearing from his Word.

We are passionate about people genuinely encountering God’s presence in our worship services.  Even more so, God is passionate about hearing from his people who praise him in unity and with humble, honest hearts.  Our lives can get pretty noisy and distracted.  In our weekend worship gatherings, we get reminded of who God is and what he has done/is doing in our lives and the world around us.  But it’s not a spectator sport. We all participate in expressing our awe and thanksgiving to Him, and He pours his Word into our needy hearts.

Since The Chapel is comprised of such a diverse array of people, we offer a variety of worship styles—each with a focused purpose of glorifying Christ.  Whether your cultural worship language is formal/traditional or casual/contemporary, you can find a home at The Chapel where you can connect deeply with Christ and his Word.  Sermons are the same at all services—just the culture of the worship differs.  Fantastic children's and youth programs are available for your family during the services as well.

If you’d like to serve on a team to help lead worship at The Chapel, there are numerous opportunities for musicians, artists, and technicians to be involved.  We would love to meet you and get you plugged in to serve on a team! Send an e-mail to Donna Bower.
